Today I watched “The Best Insult I’ve Ever Heard.” It’s a bit from a stand up show that Matt Braunger performed. The video is almost 6 minutes long.

It starts out with Matt talking about how he likes to watch men hit on women in ridiculous ways. For example, talking through an entire group of people to ask this girl out. He gives another example where he described a woman saying that she had done her laundry and dressed in a way that screamed don’t hit on me, which is funny because I dress like that all the time and no one ever hits on me so… Anyway this man asks to get drinks with her and she turned him down to which the man replied “That’s not the point.” Then he used a couple of ways it would be funny to use that expression in other areas.

In the next bit he describes how he won a bingo game while he was “really” high. That day, he was wearing a shirt that said “Peaches.” When he won he said “FUCK YEAH I WIN. BINGO!” He then said as he was walking up to get the prize and a lady screamed “FUCK YOU PEACHES!” He calls it the best insult because you can’t say anything back. I would dissagree. You could say “Right back atcha beeches.”

I think the second half was funnier because it sounded more relatable. I’ve been to bingo houses before and have seen some things like that. I also think it’s funny that he calls himself an ass and an idiot because, again, relatable. My friend Angie and I watched this together and she thought it was funny as well. I think anyone would find this funny because almost everyone can relate because we’ve all seen the men who try to be slick but aren’t

It’s Friday night! Party time!! Tonight I’m going to be watching a YouTube video, 21 Excuses for Not Practicing, by the YouTubers TwoSetViolin. Their names are Eddy and Brett and they play violin (duh). They do a lot of different videos from reacting to how television portrays violinists and musicians in general to sightreading really hard pieces of music. For those of you who don’t know what sightreading is, it’s when a musician plays a piece of music for the first time with out even seeing it before.

Basically what happens is that there is rapid fire of different excuses that people use to excuse not practicing. “My best friend’s brother’s girlfriend’s cat died.” I think this is funny because a lot of the time people do use these excuses to get out of practicing and they don’t realize that they are so unbelievable. I also like how fast it was, it gave you time to laugh but it also didn’t drag on for too long, which I think is important because you could lose your audience if you drag a joke on forever.

I think that almost everybody would find this funny. Especially my band director because I’m sure he’s heard these so many times. I think that people who don’t necisarally know music or have some understanding would like this. I mean it’s basically like 21 reasons not to do your homework but for music students.

Wow. Here we are again. Today I think that I will look at a SNL (Saturday Night Live) skit. The sketch I will be watching is called Southern Ladies starring: Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Cecily Strong.

So basically its a bunch of ladies with southern accents talking about their troubles. It wasn’t that funny. There was so many things going on I was confused. It was like we talked about today during my comedy writing class. There’s this thing called hat on a hat were there’s different funny things competing.

I honestly have no idea who would find that funny. There were jokes about incest and jokes about demons and then jokes about smoking and I was just so lost in the sketch I wasn’t sure what was funny. It makes me wonder if they had to edit laugh tracks onto the recording.

Good afternoon! Or whatever time of day you’re reading this. It is currently 4:30 ish and I am about to watch a excerpt called “Hawaii Stresses Me Out.” It’s a 5 minute clip from a stand-up show that Drew Lynch did. If you don’t know who Drew Lynch is, he’s a comedian (duh) that was on America’s Got Talent and came in third. He has a stutter and does different stand up shows and YouTube videos talking about it.

So now I guess I have to tell you what happened. Long story short, he told jokes about turtles. But I will go into detail here: He opened up talking about how as the plane he was on was touching down in Hawaii, the flight attendant said not to touch the turtles or he’d get fined. He talked about how rude it was to assume that he would touch turtles. “Like what part of a turtle looks fun to touch at all?” He laughs at his own jokes, which I think is hilarious because his laugh is a joke by itself. He elaborates on the experience by saying things like spanking the turtle and why is the fine so much and injecting small things that I wouldn’t have thought of. He also uses movements to emphasize something. He uses other things like hitting a construction worker to connect to the turtle thing. By doing that he also makes a joke about the town he’s currently in. He also uses face expression. HE MADE A REFERENCE TO SUPER MARIO BROS!!!!!!! He ends the excerpt by talking about how you were supposed to keep a 300 ft distance between you and the turtle and how he can’t see if it’s even a turtle from that far away.

I think I have quite a few friends that would find that funny. I also only have a few friends coincidentally. I think that people who are know what Super Mario Bros. is would definitely find this funny. My parents, however, would not find this funny. They’re kind of old school and only listen to comedy if it’s on Thou Shalt Laugh (a christian comedy DVD thing). I would recommend you check out Drew Lynch.

Tune in next time to read more about comedy.
